In April this year I was referred to an oral maxillo surgeon due to my jaw moving back and as a result thereof I am in constant pain. Upon examination the surgeon told me that as a result of Osteoarthritis my jaw has moved causing horrific pain as I am unable to eat properly and have constant ear ache and in pain 24/7.
He warned me that the only solution was to replace both jaw joints. I duly contacted Fedhealth in an attempt to explain that the custom made joints were R200, 000 and that I had no choice but to have the surgery. I was unable to speak with anyone due to the automatic voice recordings. I spent 4 hours on the phone trying eveyrthing to make contact with a consultant. I eventually found the no of someone in Cape town. I phoned and she was very reluctant to assist and told me to submit my authorization req. I told her it had been submitted the week before. They had nothng on record! I resub an received authorization for hospital and (2 weeks later) and I was informed in writing they pay on R19, 000. I asked the surgeon for a cheaper option and he obtained a quote for the locally made joints.
Total R91 189.99!!! I simply cannot afford it!!! What do I do???
