Serenity Cares Centre
SERENITY HOSPITAL ASKS FOR CASH UPFRONT

My son was admitted to Serenity Cares Rehab Hospital for treatment on the 29 Dec 2012. They told me that the cost was R12000 per month but they needed the cash upfront as they were not contracted to the medical aid. I paid the cash upfront with them promising in writing that they will assist me with claiming the money that I pad back from the medical aid. I definately know that the medical aid does cover this type of treatment so I agreed to wait for their invoice/statement with the correct ICD codes to enable me to get a refund from the medical aid. My son was discharged on the 3 Feb 2013 and to date 23 May 2013 I have not even received a correct statement from them. I told them right from the start that I received a pre authorisation from the medical aid for 3 days and thereafter they must contact the medical aid to get further authorisation for the remainder of the period during which treatment will be required. This was never done and therefore I am unable to claim my R12000 back from the medical aid. When I complained to the medical aid they advised me that Serenity Cares is on their panel of service providers and they should never have asked me to pay upfront. It ongoing
