Samsung S4 active damaged screen

I bought the Samsung S4 active because Samsung advertised the phone as shock proof and water resistant. My phone fell less than a meter and the screen shattered. Not something I would expect from a phone that is advertised as shock proof. Now I am advised that because I do not own a normal Samsung Galaxy phone I have to pay R3500 to repair the screen. How is it possible that the normal S4 phone screen will be replaced for free but I with the more expensive phone have to pay
