Samsung fridge - samsung aware of problem

My 2 year old side by side fridge from Samsung has stop working a month after the warranty has expired. When I contacted Samsung's call centre I was told that "they are aware of the problem"; but cannot offer any assistance as the warranty had expired. The technician that is assisting with the repair also confirmed that Samsung units have a common problem.

I was planning to purchase a smart tv in the new year - won't be Samsung. Wish Apple made a television!
