I am the sole/natural custodian and parent of a 14-year-old daughter. Amidst the week of the 17th of May 2021, upon access/opening of enrolment applications for Grade: 08 pupils, 2022, I submitted, amongst the 1st of many, an application to ‘’Hoërskool Secunda’’, c/w all the relevant information, detail and supporting documentation, for approval. Closing dates for same was end of June 2021, after which the school was responsible for contacting/providing a decision. Right from the get-go, lack of communication, poor service and the neglect of proper and due process, was notable. The majority of my fellow parents and friends informed me that responses was received, however mine, was to no avail?? I attended their offices, personally and was told that my application was never received and therefore, would have to submit a new one. Same day I provided them with proof of receipt of my 1st application and my contact information, for them to refer to. The following day, I was informed that some form of misfiling happened and that they indeed did receive same, it will be forwarded to the specific department for immediate evaluation and a decision will be made. Two more weeks passed, no responses was received and I had to attend their offices once more to enquire. I was sent away and told that someone will contact me, later that afternoon. I received an e-mail, stating that my application was unsuccessful, due to capacity being limited. As a result of their misbehaviour and timeous delays in responding or no communication at all, I am as such COMPLETELY out of time, to submit any application, at any school??? Upon my complaints, I was informed that I could submit an appeal, explaining my situation and chance for over-turning the decision, of which I did. Yet another two weeks passed and I finally received an e-mail, stating exactly the same reasoning and excuse as before??? To this day, no alternative options, suggestions or absolutions was given. All the other schools where I submitted applications, added my daughter’s details on their cancellation/short-lists, should an opportunity present itself, but NO such options or alternatives, was suggested by ‘’Hoërskool Secunda’s’’ board or committee??? The Department of Education, also has no positive feedback regarding same??? I have never felt more disgusted and disgraced, with an educational institution, more specifically ‘’Hoërskool Secunda’’, which used to be one of the most prestigious schools in our area. From this point on, I have no idea what to do next and/or avoid my daughter being disappointed, when she is so eager to do her best and succeed. What plans and end-result is awaiting our youth, with such an uncertain future??? Feedback, options, suggestions, advice and possible solutions from all are welcome.
