Unisa
Some medical conditions are treated differently

Today I was informed that even though I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (SEVERE vomiting and nausea during pregnancy, which resulted in being admitted into hospital twice, the most recent admission lasting a week), that it is against UNISA's policy to accommodate pregnant women for "extra" time. Please note that I did not ask for EXTRA time, but only to be allowed to catch up on time that I needed to spend in the bathroom, as this time is lost. I was told that they work with students with disabilities only. Disabilities are not limited to physical and learning disabilities, but includes a multitude of medical conditions.

In terms of the Constitution, no one may discriminate towards someone based on their pregnancy status. So why are some medical conditions given preference?

This is highly offensive. I was even told that if they allowed "extra" time for pregnant women, all the female students would fall pregnant deliberately. This is completely ludicrous. I wonder how many women would lose weeks in study time while they are in hospital, and spend their time vomiting their lungs out for a few extra minutes that aren't really extra in the first place...
