My father has been receiving persistent letters from the fees office regarding a bill that was cleared ages ago. At the end of 2011, I spent sometime in vacation accommodation (EOH residence). The rule clearly stated a student was unable to move into any vacation residence unless they paid for their room in advance. NO-ONE, I repeat NO-ONE was permitted to occupy a room without having paid for their stay. Anyhow, I eventually left Wits for good (having paid all my bills; I also acquired my academic record which should not have possible if you have any outstanding fees). Having settled all my bills, I didn't see the need to keep any receipts. A few months later, my father was bombarded with letters from the fees office demanding I settle my bill. If I really do owe fees, why then was I permitted to stay in a Wits vacation accommodation facility not having paid for my stay in advance. Also if I had an outstanding balance at the end of the year, how did I manage to get my academic record???
And am I really expected to keep ALL RECEIPTS even though they are no longer necessary? Anyhow the latest letter is a threat to take me to court. It's high time Wits sorted out its fees office!!!
