I live in a block of flats and there was a leak into the garage below my flat.
The block's managing agents called out Gilbert Plumbers to see if they could find a leak.
Gilbert Plumbers inspected my kitchen sink and found that the mixer needed replacing.
I had not used them before, but as they were there and I wanted the leak to stopped as
soon as possible I asked them to go ahead and replace the mixer and I would pay for
the new mixer and an hours labour that we required to refit.
When receiving the invoice it was not broken down, but gave me a total amount of R1161, 28
which I thought sounded too much.
I called my normal plumbers and realised that Gilbert Plumbers charged double the amount
of the usual call out fee for a plumber in the Sea Point area. I called Builders Warehouse for
the price of the mixer tap. They have also doubled the price of the mixer.
After sending an email stating the above, Gilbert Plumbers finally gave me a 5% discount
and I have paid the invoice.
Even though there was nothing wrong with their service, I would not use them again as I don't
like being ripped off and in this economic climate I don't think people can afford to throw away
money.
