Last Thursday evening, after giving someone a ride to Somerset Hospital, my Mercedes Benz water tank malfunctioned and the engine warning light came on. This note is my gratitude for choosing to drive from the hospital to the Caltex garage at the waterfront. Peter Arendse the manager of the service station was called by one of the forecourt attendants (who should also be commended for thinking on his feet) and took a look at the problem, patiently showing me what had gone wrong. He also suggested I leave my car in the staff parking behind the service station overnight. (You can't leave cars overnight on the forecourt) This gave me time to check with my mechanic on exactly what part to buy. The next morning, Peter Arendse kindly installed the R71.00 part for me, taking care to remove all the debris from the water pipe & reusing the clips.
I have no loyalty to fuel suppliers generally, though Peter's actions will prompt me to go out of my way to support the Caltex service station at the waterfront. Thank you Peter. Your kind gesture made a huge difference to my life at this time and I now know how to repair the water pipe on a Mercedes Benz though I hope I never have to!!
