I sent a shipment with the Pinelands branch of DHL (which I've done numerous times before) and stressed (as I always do) that the package MUST be delivered express and arrive at it's destination by 9am the following morning. The ladies confirmed that it will be.

Three days later I got an email saying the the shipment only arrived at the destination then, since it was sent via Johannesburg! Furthermore, the lid of the cooler box which we use to keep the content below 10 degrees Celsius was removed (even though the package was thoroughly sealed!) and thus the content's temperature had rised to 15 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the content had to be thrown out because 1) the time period in which the content had to be used/tested had elapsed and 2) because of the high temperature, the samples were not usable.

This was samples sent on behalf of a Germany company, who now lost a lot of money because of DHL's pathetic service. I have already made arrangements with another courier company for local shipments, because in my line of work, we cannot risk shipments not arriving in time and good condition.
