My JEEP's engine light went on once again. This happens frequently ( - 3 to 4 times a year). I used to take it to any JEEP dealership and they would run the diagnostic test (which only takes 2 minutes) and reset the message. Free of charge. 90% of the time it's a false message. If something is wrong, they quote me and I get it fixed.
Today at JEEP Menlyn, Pretoria, the head mechanic, wanted to charge me R655 for this. Another lady in the office heard I was unhappy and said, no, it's R350!
Why must I pay to get the diagnostic test performed? Isn't it client service? Yes it's an old vehicle (2004), but R350 for a 2 minute diagnostic test?
I think it's a rip off and highly irresponsible. This excessive amount can negatively motivate a driver not to get the fault checked out which can result in an engine burnt out, heavy damage to a vehicle or an accident.
I still have my engine light burning.
What to do?
