Goodhope Tyre Centre
Dunlop sport 6060 failure

On 31 March 2014 I had 2 Dunlop Sport 6060 195X55X15 tires to the front of a 2007 Renault Modus 1.4, the left front blew out after 800 km, I purchased the vehicle on a auction on 22 March 2014 so I have no history on the vehicle as tire deflation is concerned and the new tires were fitted for roadworthy purposes.

Disgusted I had a new tire fitted (Vitour) at Karismatic Motor World in Athlone, the fitter stated that it appeared as if the tire was under inflated, the right front pressure was checked and found to be on only 1 bar pressure, the pressure was subsequently corrected to 2.2 bar, now 400km later the pressure has been corrected at regular intervals.

A suggestion was made that the pressure leak was possibly caused by a defective aluminum alloy rim however the (Vitour) fitted is maintaining it's pressure on the rim with the blow out. Both rims (Standard Renault alloy rims) with inflated tires were dumped into a barrel of water but no visible leaks could be observed, the question now is, is it the tires or is it the rims.

I am seriously concerned about the safety aspect as far as tires is concerned, especially the remaining Dunlop on the vehicle, as my daughter has to drive the car everyday to work and back. I'm not questioning the quality of workmanship of the fitment center as I have not had any problems with them before, my concern is if there has been any other similar occurrences and or if it could be a general defect in the tire itself or does the problem lie with the rim itself.
