My husband, myself and his cousin were on our way to Dullstroom for the weekend. We stopped to get dinner at the Ultracity on the N4 in Middelburg. We were inside for about 5 minutes when a man came inside to ask if we drove a POLO as it had been broken into. We went outside to discover the window had been smashed and items had been from our car, these items were worth 60 000 in value, cameras, laptop, cellphone in bags etc were . suddenly unmarked security guard came to see the damage. I had to go into the shop to ask the manager on duty for the CCTV footage, he said come back tomorrow as they dont have keys for that room. We were treated terribly and basically brushed off with no concern. There are no signs up warning of smash and grabbers operating in the area. The garage subsequently admitted it is a huge problem for them, then why not warn clients and why not have visible security guards? The owner told his insurere to write to us in "mooi engels" that he has no cover for our stuff. He then advised he considers his file to be closed. He thinks his security is great and does not want to compensate us at all. His security is useless and his attitude stinks.
