I rented 2 vehicles from Rent a cheapie. One in the cheapest class to simply get around Cape Town, and one that was nicer and also was allowed to go further than Cape Town for our planned trip to the Garden Route. When I received the quote for the vehicles it was stated we could drive the vehicle to the Garden Route for an additional R499. When I picked up the first car at the airport (not only were they 30 minutes late) I mentioned the reason why we got 2 cars and that we planned to drive to Plettenberg bay with the 2nd car. He said it would be great in that car.
After returning the cars I was informed they were going to keep my deposit because I had breached their contract for driving to Plettenberg bay with the car, since we had not paid the R499. I told him I assumed it could simply be paid on return. He said fine regardless he will be keeping my deposit because now I had breached the contract because I had driven over the speed limit - he then emailed me a report of every time I had gone over the set speed limit from a GPS device in many cases I was 3- 8km over the limit. This was never mentioned to me when renting either of the cars. They find any loophole to cheat you!
