AA Membership Fee Rip off

I registered with the AA in April 2013 and paid the membership fee of R 835 via credit card on 29 April 2013. At that stage I was told that the membership is valid for a year from April 2013 to April 2014.
However I received a letter dated 13 June 2013 advising that my membership is up for renewal on 18 July 2013.

I don't understand how this is possible when I paid my annual fee in April 2013.
When I called the call centre, I was told that the membership fee that was paid was for the period July 2012 to July 2013. I find this unacceptable as I was not covered for the period July 2012 to March 2013 and cannot be billed for a period in which I was not covered for.

This was not communicated to me when I paid my membership fee in April and I find this to be a total rip off from the AA.

I'd like the matter investigated and if the membership is not valid for a year from date of payment, I'd like a full refund of my premium.
