I booked a table for 30 people, everything was fine until the bill arrived. Waiters were not very forthcoming, I had them hovering over me while I tallied up my bill, on my own at 1, 30 in the morning. Some of the customers paid by credit card & debit card, some paid cash.
I personally gave the waiters a R400 tip each, which I counted out several times. Some of the people had paid for drinks & their meal by card. When i tallied it all up afterwards, seems I was out of pocket over R1000.00! I called the restaurant the following day to tell & they said they had R793 left from cards in tips! I explained to them that the waiters were actually tipped R 400 each (almost 15%)(3 x) & that I am short. To cut a long story short they said the bill had to go to the auditors. I didn't mind the waiters walking away with a large tip, but I did mind the fact that I was short so much. The waiters claimed I only gave them R250 cash each & the tips from the cards was theirs. To add insult to injury, the birthday girl's meal arrived AFTER everyone had eaten! Then, the deposit/refund cost me R30 in bank charges! I also gave the waiters half the birthday cake, didn't mind at all! just disappointed.
