I arrived home on 29 April 2013 to find a letter from ABSA Vehicle Finance dated 6 March 2013 requesting me to send them proof of insurance for my car and if i dont within 30 days, they are going to open a new insurance policy on my behalf of which R926.05 will be deducted from my account. Joy of joys, the money was deducted from my acount on this morning before i could send through my documents and call them.
Fine i understand why they are doing this but shouldnt they at least obtain proof that you recieved the letter, knowing that the letter could get lost, delayed in my case, go to the wrong people who throw it away and then they deduct hundreds off your account, cant they call you or send the request via email?
I called them today and they said i must go to my bank and reverse the debit order but i dont have my ID with me which means i can only do this on Thursday since Wednesday is a public holiday, will i still be able to reverse it by then? This is really stupid and i am sure it is unlawful, a colleague of mine was telling me that even though he sent his letter within the 30 day grace, they deducted the money still and it took 3 months to refund. What must i do now?
