Switching to FNB - supposed to be easy and quick

I got a call from the FNB head office asking if I would like to open a cheque account with them, and then switching all my debit order and beneficieries to this account.

I agreed and sent all documentation through as requested, aknowledgement of the documentation was received. More than a month after my call from them I went to the Lynnwood branch to enquire what the status of my account was, the guy that assited me were very friendly and helpful, but he informed that after a month and numerous queries about the status from my side, nothing happened.

He assisted me with a few other queries I had and requested that I resend all the documentation to the person that contacted me first, I did that and Cc'd him. it's more than two weeks now again and still I have not heard anything from FNB.

I bought a new car, and indicated that the debit order must go off on the FNB account, but now I must transfer money to the account because my work has not been contacted to switch my salary to the FNB account.

What happened to all this about being the best bank and the great service, I am sorry I have not had the same experience as being advertised.
