Standard Bank
Home loans

I applied for a Standard Bank home loan in 2010, which was approved. Unfortunately, however, there were delays in the transfer of the property as a result of delays at the City of Johannesburg municipality (in terms of rates clearance) and SARS (in terms of transfer duty). These delays took more than 2 years to resolve. In that time, the home loan that was approved in 2010 expired and I was asked to re-apply for the loan. After having approved the loan for the second time, Standard Bank appointed different attorneys to the ones originally appointed in 2010. The original attorneys have been paid, have been dealing with this matter for the past few years and there is a lot of history in this transaction. When I explained the situation to the new attorneys, they agreed that the original attorneys should complete the transaction. It appears, however, that this is not Standard Bank's policy and the call centre did not even know who to escalate the matter to! This is further delaying an already long and painful transaction and we are in danger of losing the rates clearance we waited 2 years for! Surely this warrants an exception to the rule?!
