I phoned the Absa call centre to close my Absa cheque account and credit card. The person on the line said he would do it for me, nothing happened! I went into the branch at Absa (I am a Platinum banker!!!) and they said because I have balances left in my account they will have to transfer the money to another bank account of mine. I gave them all the details, signed some page to authorize the transfer and to my amazement my account is still not closed! I have since then incurred bank charges which now takes my balance below zero and I cant transfer inter account to from my credit card to zero the balance. I am fed up with this! The reason why I wanted to close the account was not to incur any more charges!!!
