Mail sent of referral then told to ignore

I received an e-mail of R500 referral that was to be paid to me, also requesting my tax details for IRP5 form. I was not sure of this so I called Dial Direct yesterday afternoon approximately at 2.45pm. I spoke to Aaron, he told me to ignore the mail. I asked him why would they send me mail of R500 to be paid to me then tell me to ignore it. this does not make sense. I asked for a supervisor and no one was available. To date no one has called me to explain what and why. this is not the service one expects from Dial Direct.
