Very unreliable and incovenient

On 14 Feb 2013 i applied for a loan and was approved, I was promised the first premium would be taken in March. To my surprise just out of the blue my account was debited some few days later and returned unpaid as there were insufficient funds resulting in a hefty bank charge (not happy). When I contacted AB Customer Service on the 1st of March requesting that they stop the debit completely as I would arrange with my bank for a scheduled payment monthly they refused and said that it was compulsory and that it HAD to be a debit from their side & that the rule is as long as loan was granted a week before the month is over automatically the 1st premium falls within the same month with fear of being listed on ITC i asked for their banking details and made payment for the Feb premium. Now I'm worried because I don't want the same mishap to occur again that's why I would rather pay my premiums directly to them every month by the last day, but I'm worried if they dont remove my debit order details there could be a situation where there are double debits and would again be an inconvenince. So PLEASE ALL I'M ASKING IS THAT I'M ALLOWED TO DO A SCHEDULED PAYMENT AND PAY MY LOAN IN PEACE PLEASE!
