I attempted to draw cash from an ABSA ATM in West Street Durban on Friday but my transaction was declined 4 times. The email from my bank read as follows "Your transaction on card Num xxxx was declined as this ATM is not Chip PIN ready. Please try another ATM. We apologise for the inconvenience caused' Thumbs up to my bank for being proactive and advising as to why I could not use this ATM, but big thumbs down to ABSA as the only reason given by their usless ATM was error code 68 which to a non bank employee means squat! In this day and age where banks are meant to be security conscious, especially ABSA with their bad track record, how can an ATM NOT support Chip & Pin cards. Am i so glad I recently closed my account and moved to a bank operating in the 21st century.
