In October 2012 my ABSA credit card's chip started malfunctioning and in early November I recieved a new credit card from ABSA. While on vacation in Cape Town in December my new credit card started with the same issues my previous card had. No merchants can read the chip and as a result cannot process any transactions. Some vendors luckily know how to manually process transactions, but this has left me red-faced at multiple vendors. I cannot understand how a card that is virtually brand new and less that two months old can just suddenly stop working. i have now requested a new card from ABSA, but I'm not sure how long this card will actually last.
