I am a platinum account holder with FNB and I have been for the past few years. I was always under the impression that free access to the airport slow lounges was one of the benefits of the account. This was widely reported in media and the FNB website. The account as you know has a monthly income or professional status requirement which is the qualifying criteria. I travelled from Cape Town to Durban last week and I thought I would try the slow lounges for the first time. Imagine my surprise when I checked my statement and I see 2 charges for R250 for each visit. That is a bill of R500 for a few treats and some coffee. I called the call centre and they say that the pricing guide was updated in July 2012 and there is a new qualifying criteria for this benefit. My account is in good standing, I earn more than the R16500 a month required but in addition to that i need to swipe for purchases to the amount of R5000 in the month preceding the lounge visit which I didn't do. My biggest issue is that no one informed me of this when I arrived at the desk of the lounges both in CPT and Durban. They just swiped my card. I think that is appalling and I want these charges reversed.
