Standard Bank
Deceased Accounts

My husband passed away suddenly on 09/12/12 and on 12/12/12 I went into Standard Bank Festival Mall to claim his funeral policy and request them to freeze his accounts. I supplied them with all the documents they asked me for and a claim against his credit life insurance for his RCP account was submitted. I received a confirmation sms on my late husband's cell phone confirming the claim had been lodged. In January I saw debit orders were still being allowed to go through on his current account, even though there were insufficient funds, resulting in his account now being overdrawn by nearly R4, 500 and his overdraft facility is only R100! In February the debit orders again went through but were then returned and a fee of R115 charged on each returned debit order. To date the credit life department have still not settled his RCP account and it appears that his current account and credit card account have not been flagged as a deceased account.
