Absa
Safe keeping of my personal details not adequate

Someone tried to withdraw R16000 from my account and immediately I got a message via sms on my phone. I immediately logged onto my acc and in my email box I got a message to say someone has tried to hack my account and my information has been deactivated and should press the button below ro reactivate. I was a bit suspicious and did not press the button. I logged onto my internet banking and checked mymy accounts online and they were fine.

Today I get a call from an "Absa person" and not knowing whether to believe them I asked her if she could verify in any way that she is indeed an Absa employee, she couldn't. I was asked to verify my address and ID number and I refused because I was not given any reassurance that she is an Absa employee or not.

The "Absa person" called her manager to come and reassure me that she was calling from Absa and I believe she made things worse. She says when I open my account statement sent by email, I am asked some security questions and she is sure that every account holder at Absa who gets their statements my email is asked those questions.

I have been an account holder at Absa for more than 10 years and I have never been asked that.
