Overcharging students - Misinformed banking staff

I received an sms that as I am over 23 and a student I need to pay R52 per month or visit a branch close to me. I visited Thibault Sq on 31 October, a female in her early 40's with Harry Potter styled glass assisted me (My name was in the records for that day). I told her about the sms, she said it can't be and that I should ignore it. I confirmed with her and she said it was the case. I left SA the next day (I informed her I was leaving). And how I get an email informing me of the charges. I cannot open another banking account in SA as I am abroad and will only return in September this year. This is unprofessional firstly as this staff member was in the dark about what was happening in her place of work and then to give in false hope and now I need to pay these charges and I am a student! Other banks have cheaper packages for students regardless of age. This is ageist. I am now unable to open another South African account until my return. I would like to know how this matter is going to be dealt with as it is appalling to be ripping off student's like this.
