A few months ago, Standard Bank saw fit to convert my elderly mothers savings account from an E-Plan a/c to an Access Account a/c. As a result she is no longer able to open electronic fixed deposits online. I made enquiries and was advised to visit the Brakpan Branch to resolve the issue. This I did, with my mother to try and resolve the issue. The assistant, although helpful, proved to be totally incompetent and unable to resolve the issue. As a result we had to open a fixed deposit account in the branch which was time consuming and a waste of my time in this age of electronic banking. On leaving the branch, the assistant promised to 'escalate' the issue and resolve it ASAP. Three months later, one of my mothers electronic fixed deposits has matured into the access savings account, and unlike in the past, we are still unable to open an electronic fixed deposit on line.
The issue seems to be that the savings account must be linked to a her mastercard, PROBLEM IS SHE HAS NO MASTER CARD TO LINK!!!
How can Standard Bank resolve this issue. If not, we are going to move to another bank that offers proper online banking.
