Standard Bank
Travel Wallet

On a previous visit to the USA some 6 years ago TraveWallet would not work in any store or restaurant, only issue cash from ATMs.
Having thought that I would give it another chance I used their new "smart" card for a holiday in Australia and New Zealand at the end of last year. I had transactions on my TravelWallet declined on 9 out of 31 occasions.
TravelWallet stated "we only see 3 declines. 2 went to stand in, this means that there was a communication fault between ourselves and Mastercard. We don't allow MasterCard to authorise on our behalf when this happens so they declined the transactions.
The third was because the travel wallet details were captured manually. We don't allow this. In order to securely identify that the card is being used validly we need either the magstripe or chip data to authenticate the card. In the absence of this data we decline the transaction.
The balance of the declines would be on the foreign merchant / Foreign banks side as the transactions never reached MasterCard."
The last sentence is unacceptable. I paid those accounts by my Mastercard immediately after the TW was declined. The other excuses are also questionable.
