No assistance in policy cancellation

I have been trying to cancel my insurance policy as I have sold the insured vehicle. When I phone, I am told to speak to a senior adviser who will help me, and I am kept on hold for far too long. The senior advisers seem to be extremely busy, too busy in fact to take my calls or to respond to requests for call-back. I have been informed that my policy will be placed on hold so no debits will be taken, which I appreciate the consultant who spoke to me doing (this was not a senior adviser, so could not help me with cancellation), but I need to have the policy cancelled as soon as possible.
