Shock when you want to claim

I've had insurance for about 7 years. I have never claimed for anything and I pay my monthly premium every month. This month my dstv decoder got damaged due to a power surge. My excess was more than what the decoder would cost me, so I paid cash for a new one. Then a few days later I noticed that my fridge was got damaged by die power surge and it's not making as cold as what it used to, so i phoned "First for Women" and was told that I had to pay my excess of R900 excess of - R500 because it was a power surge and then they will send someone to collect the fridge and look at it.

So it will cost me R1500 and I sit without a fridge (so I have to take everything that's in the friige somewhere) and then they will probably just fix it. I can just as well buy a new fridge.

I don't why I even bother to phone them, it's cheaper and easier to just replace the product. I was unable to get hold of them the entire weekend and had to wait till Monday morning.

Not sure why I'm paying for "home assist" when I can even use it.
