In November 2013, there was a cable at our power sub station which caused a power surge in our area. The majority of the households sustained damage to their electrical appliances including my own home.
We filed a claim with our insurer Alexander Forbes, only to be informed that our claim will not be paid out because we are not covered for a power surge.
My cover includes, lightning damage, explosions and. They say that I cannot claim because the explosion did not take place at my home, even though my appliances were damaged as a result of the explosion caused at the power station.
A very irate customer with damages that neither the insurer or the municipality will pay for.
