I cancelled/did not renew my cellphone contract

I did not renew my cellphone contract (I asked them to cancel) and a couple of months back received a call from their RUDE lawyers informing me that I owe them money. Firstly the contract was cancelled and now they've sold their debt to lawyers who after much prodding informed me that I owe then R12000. Imagine what a shock I got. They even refuse to investigate the matter after numerous calls and 2 e-mails,
they expect me to sort the matter out. No wonder Mobile/Credit U went bankrupt, they didn't keep proper records and the people that paid their debts are saddled with their stupidity!
I want this matter resolved how can they expect me to pay for a contract that I know I cancelled.
and why after all this time do they now say I didn't cancel my contract.
maybe they should check if I have been using the cellphone.
maybe now these fools will take me seriously.
