Outdated procedures, unhelpful staff

My wife and I were recently married and when we went to FNB to change her surname on her account, we showed the certificate of marriage to prove that the name can be changed.

The lady however informed us she would need a divorce order as well before she can change the name.

When I politely asked how on earth we could be married if she wasn't divorced she said she agreed it is stupid, but that is the procedure.

It reminded me why I moved from ABSA years ago to Investec and why I will never move to bank like FNB despite their marketing campaigns to claim they are different.
They are a dinosaur when judged by their procedures and staff attitudes.
