I was diagnosed at the age of 29 with a tumour on my pituitary gland. This required me going for an operation to remove said tumour. My financial advisor said I could claim under the severe illness benefit (I have paid for this for a couple of years now). I was sold this packaged product by a consultant (who no longer works at Discovery). This package seemed too good to be true but I went with it despite all the negative press (that I received from people) around Discovery products and its ability to pay when it really counts.
My tumour was a significant size that it affected my daily functions which include (not limited) memory loss and my vision. A Discovery brochure said paying was based on severity rather than just your condition. Discovery paid according to my condition and when I sent it with further info being received, they declined the upgrade.
I spoke to Sharon from Claims who was very rude after having promised to look again into it. She sent me a decline letter stating reasons for decline and one of the items mentioned on the letter was under Severity C on the Definitions annexure. I am disgusted at this rude service and inability to pay. Just goes to show!!!
