I have emigrated and are busy with my formal emigration process which involves the withdrawal of my retirement annuity. All required documentation was sent to Discovery by ABSA, who is managing it for me. Discovery sent an email to me with a Form C from SARS attached - application for tax directive, asking me to apply for a tax directive from SARS. After many phone calls to SARS, and investigating SARS' website, it is clear that Discovery will have to apply for the tax directive on my behalf. As an individual I can not apply for it myself. Every time I send an email to Discovery (Invest Payment Support) to inform them of this, they reply with the same comments that I will have to apply for the tax directive and not Discovery. So please tell me who is correct, SARS or Discovery?? The lady at ABSA has ensured me that no other financial institution has ever requested a tax directive for an emigration process before. Not sure why Discovery needs it... I wish someone at Discovery could sort this out as this is now going on for months.
