I recently (April 2013) processed a retirement payout which was supposed to be tax free and Liberty personnel processed a directive, that they had applied for and received, it with a R57, 000 tax deduction, knowing full well that this was my initial retirement submission. On querying this Mr. De Bruin replied that they process thousands of these applications and cannot be expected to check on everything and that it was my problem to get the incorrectly deducted tax back from SARS. I have received advice that because Liberty are the ones that applied for the Directive they are the only ones that can get it reversed. No one at Liberty is interested but they took my money for 40 odd years!!!
