We travelled to Thailand recently and took out travel insurance which cost us R1200. Our luggage stayed behind in Johannesburg and only reached us 4 days later in Phuket.
We phoned to see how much we were able to claim and they said R1000 per person.
As you can imagine we had quite a few things that we had to buy, swimwear, suntan lotion, flip flops, shampoo and other toiletries, t-shirts and clean underpants, swim towels etc. Easily way more than R1000 per person but we had to get these items otherwise our dream holiday would have been ruined.
I knew that we had to get receipts to be able to claim but it was virtually impossible to get a receipt anywhere where we shopped as most things were at markets where you bargain for the cheapest price. Even some of the supermarkets weren't able to give us receipts.
I took photos of the stuff we bought so I could at least prove that we bought it. After submitting TIC just said that they can only pay for the receipts shown. It takes someone with half a brain to know that we spent more than R1000 per person to buy four days worth of clothing but they insisted and weren't negotiable at all.
Very disappointed in TIC!
