Returned debit orde

On the 1st of October I failed to make provision for a debit order going through my account for R228. I incorrectly calculated the amount required to be deposited to cover my debit orders which were in excess of R10 000.

Realising my error I deposited the required funds to meet the debit order. ABSA's automated system has no margin for error and despite the deposit the debit order was returned unpaid. My credit record of some forty years of banking, twenty five years with ABSA wiped out because ABSA's automated system does not allow a clients credit record to be taken into consideration.

Needing to fix the problem I phoned my portfolio manager to arrange a small overdraft just in case I should repeat the exercise. Needless to say what a waste of time. ABSA's automated system now took the unpaid transaction into consideration and allowed me no overdraft facilities. It was recommended that I should phone back after the 6th of the month and maybe then the system would have updated my profile and allow for some sort of unknown facility. Needless to say I never bothered.

Today I receive a letter telling me what a valued customer I am. Do these computers not talk to each other?
