ABSA sent me an SMS informing me that they tried to contact me but was unable to, so they send an SMS informing me that I need to send proof of my vehicle insurance otherwise they will add an additional premium to my vehicle finance instalment. I'm not sure how they tried contacting me as I have no missed call, and nobody left a voicemail. Considering that my communication preferences are set to email, I'm not sure how they claim to "tried to contact you". In addition to this, it was mandatory to insure this vehicle before I could take ownership of it when I bought it 4 years ago. I understand that ABSA need to manage their risk but this is not the approach that should be used to get the info required. There is alot of sms/email and I will not send any information which contain detailed particulars of my personal information and the vehicle information to some random email address. ABSA's claim that they will add an additional amount to my instalment just because they "could not get hold" of me is ridiculous. Why don't ABSA just do a insurance check and they will in any case get all the relevant details. Considering the fact that you abuse the Consumer Protection Act already.
