Finally Standard Bank has placed the proverbial last straw on this camel's back.
The detailed story is too long, but here's a summary:
o They sold me a MoneyGram transfer for $1500 without telling me that Arizona - where it was going - had a limit of $500 per day.
o When I requested a refund, I was told it would be at the dollar purchase rate - I lose money.
o They also said I would lose my R700 commission - despite the whole mess being their fault - I lose more money.
o I spent 3 hours (worth R525/hour) in the bank fighting with them over this.
o One of those hours was spent waiting for a team leader who, I later found out, had been loitering in the bank the whole time chatting to her colleagues.
o They eventually refunded me the full amount - only to call me today to say their legal department says it's my fault so they want their commission back.
So, despite me being a client for 44 years, for the sake of a few hundred rand, Standard Bank is losing my personal and business banking to FNB.
So long Standard. It's been real. Real painful.
