R5000 out acc. Bank refuse to refund

On 23/09/13 at 12:36 I went to withdraw money at a Standard Bank ATM with my wife's card. I had her authority. I ALWAYS cover keypad when punching the PIN. The moment I punched in the PIN it appeared on the ATM screen. I realised something was wrong, tried to cancel transaction, but the card did not want to come out. My wife phoned me moments later whilst I was still at the ATM and asked why I withdrew R5000. I told her I hadn't entered how much I wanted to withdraw. She said R5000 had been withdrawn as she received an sms from the bank. I told her to immediately cancel the card, which she did at 12:42. Spoke to Oswin who gave her ref. 123066435. He told her it was a machine malfunction and that it was not. I waited at the ATM whilst my wife was on phone with him and at 12:46 my wife phoned me back and said that Oswin said I could leave from the ATM as the card had been cancelled. We went to the bank to get a new card and report what happened and they said it was! We reported it and were told we will get a phone call in 10 days. On Wed.16 Oct. a Wayne notified my wife that they will not re-imburse her as "the card was not recovered from the ATM!! Ref. 20130925/00059
