I recently took up a Home Bond with Standard Bank. The bond requires you to take up a life insurance policy, but since I already have a policy which sufficiently cover the amount, I declined Standard Bank's life cover and signed that I do not accept their quote on the contract. Later I found that the policy was issued on my name, and premiums deducted from my Bond Account. A few days after a visit to the Three River branch where I submitted the required documents to cancel, I phoned the call center and they informed me that the policy was not canceled. They requested me to send an e-mail with a signed cancellation letter. I did that, just to find out, three weeks later that the policy is STILL NOT CANCELED even though they did receive the documents! Its been 2 months yet I should pay for a service not requested. Since the cancellation was in the required time period I also requested a refund of premiums paid. I never received a response from them and they don't do any effort to sort out the problem. In the mean time, I am paying for a ridiculously expensive policy I did not request. I have no idea how to sort out this problem as they just blame others! 's maybe?
