Since I've been Standard Bank Prestige customer for about 20 years I was hoping that getting a home loan would be easy. I have no debts, a big savings, a monthly repayment would be less than 20% of my net income, the property I wanted to buy is a new development in one of the most prestigious city area.
Two months later, my application was still circulating between nameless and faceless home loan consultants hiding behind call center operators. All information I could get from friendly operators is that my "application is in process". Any attempt of my branch consultants and myself to get any information or to get someone accountable was simply unsuccessful. The only communication I was getting from the bank were occasional email requests for submission for more documents or for resubmission of existing ones.
After having enough, I went online, and although I do not have any accounts with them, I applied with ABSA bank. Not even an hour later a consultant from ABSA responded to my applications. The ABSA consultant was a real person with a name, email address and a contact number. After a week or so my bond was approved, and all documents ready to be signed.
