A few years ago i transfered R1000 from my ABSA account to a Nedbank account and got charged R500 for it. I then decided to switch bank as I found it ridiculous to be charged that much. I had two debit order coming from my Islamic savings account that i did not cancel thinking because my account was zero it would eventually just close. The smses that i received monthly said i had insufficient funds but no indication was given that my account was actually going into negative. I was hospitalised not too long ago and my medical aid paid the money that i needed to pay for my operation into my ABSA account. I went into the bank to make payment and to my suprise just under R3100.00 was deducted for transaction fees and bank charges, almost half of my medical bills disappeared in an instance. I queried it at the help desk and all they did was cancel the 2debit orders and said "there is nothing we can do about it".i wouldve expected the sms to at least indicate that my account was going into overdraft, and to be charged R500 for a transfer is ridiculous! i would not recommend anyone to open an ABSA account, the bank I'm currently with i do not even notice the charges. I'v been robbed by ABSA
