WOW! The level of incompetence

I opened an account with standard bank when I was 19. I just got my first job! Not knowing much about banking or handling my own money I took the consultant's advice. She offered me a credit card and overdraft and told me it would benefit me in future relations with the bank. My working contract was only 6 months which was not taken into consideration. I slowly got myself into debt. I called THEM (not responding to an email, sms or letter. Out of my own) to make arrangements to pay. I was unemployed and still wanted to pay them but they would not accept my amount! Unbelievable!!! They wanted more and I cannot afford that amount as an unemployed person. They should be glad that I want to pay. Instead they sent me a lawyers letter after I called and was transferred to 6 different people. How can we move forward if no one is willing to help me. It is really unfair.. honestly.
