DEBIT ORDERS ON NEW ACCOUNTS

I opened a new account at Nedbank on Friday the 23 August 2013. On Tuesday I deposited money into the account, and today there was a debit order on my account for R558.62. Without my consent or knowledge for that matter.
Is this how banks operate these days. A person's money is so not safe there. How disappointing. I wish i could get my salary paid in cash. Its much safer that way.
If i "owed" the bank any money, they could at least have contacted me or something, to make some sort of an arrangement. (If this is the case)
I will be contacing the (banking ombudsman). Im not going to leave this as is.
