I had a Credit card with Standard bank and I was in arrears when I lost my job at the height of recession. I was R8000.00 in the red by then. I spoke to Standard bank to let them know that I could no longer keep up with my payments. I could not even make any payment arrangement whatsoever as I had NO form of income at all. I had responsibilities and obligations to repay my debt to Standard bank which i reiterated on many rude encounters I had with their Credit card division. After some considerable amount of time I received a call from some stranger from DMC that I am in arrears and that they are a debt collection company and that I now had to pay them in order to settle my debt. I was at my tethers when I asked my mother to borrow me money in order for me to pay my debts and I asked for them to let me know exactly what I owed them, I was told that I was R13000 and odd rands in the red, I went into Standard bank to try and get the amount that I knew I owed them and I was given a print out which stated that I owed them R8000. I need to be advised IN DETAIL how that figure managed to leap frog so dismally. I need to let them know that I will be taking this matter up.
