We have just tried to book an international trip on my Investec Visa credit card. What a nightmare! Every time we try to purchase a flight or train ticket, Investec blocks the purchase. Multiple calls to my private banker and the call centre do not resolve the problem, despite promises to the contrary.
Consequences:
1) driving to the Emirates ticket sales offices at ORT to make payment for a flight ticket, due to being locked out of their website as a result of multiple failed payment attempts. A great way to spend the weekend.
2) being unable to purchase the first class French train tickets we wanted for a 3.5 hour journey and having to settle for second class on another train service which accepted payment via our international (non Investec) Amex card
It gets better: Investec is randomly blocking my local in-person card purchases... the call centre cannot explain why. Very embarrassing and inconvenient.
Paltry service from a private bank which has just hiked fees up to R350 per month!!!
